Beto Lopez elected new chair of MARC board

The MARC Board of Directors has elected new leadership.

Beto Lopez, mayor pro tem of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was elected chair at the Jan. 27 Board meeting. He replaces Commissioner Janeé Hanzlick, Johnson County, Kansas, who served as chair for the past two years.

Elected to the Lee’s Summit City Council in 2018, Mayor Pro Tem Lopez joined the MARC Board in 2019 and has served as a Board officer since 2021. He serves as the president and CEO of Guadalupe Centers, one of the Midwest’s largest nonprofit organizations. Mayor Pro Tem Lopez also supports many local organizations and boards, including the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and KC Police Foundation. 



Thank you to Commissioner Hanzlick for her service as Board chair. She will remain on the board representing Johnson County.

• Treasurer — Councilmember Dr. Bridget McCandless, Independence, Missouri
• Secretary — Mayor Eric Mikkelson, Prairie Village, Kansas
